Architecture first, shopping second
Central Market, or Phsar Thmei, is the domed Art Deco hall completed in 1937 at the heart of Phnom Penh, with four arms radiating from a central rotunda. The design draws air upward through the dome, which keeps it noticeably cooler than the street outside. Jewellery, watches and electronics sit under the dome; food and everyday goods fill the wings.
