Most Angkor tours march you through eight temples before lunch. This one splits every day in two — dawn and late afternoon out, the hot middle of the day off — so you finish the trip rested instead of wrecked.
Siem Reap Slow Travel is a 3 day private tour of the Angkor Archaeological Park built around a split-day rhythm: guided touring at dawn and again in the late afternoon, with the hottest four hours of the day free at your hotel. It covers Ta Prohm, Angkor Thom, the Bayon and Angkor Wat, a Tonle Sap floating village, a countryside sunset dinner and the unrestored jungle temple of Beng Mealea. It is designed for travellers and photographers who want depth rather than a checklist.
You tour from around 6:00 AM to 10:30 AM and again from 3:45 PM. The four hours in between — the hours when the stone is too hot to touch and the light is flat — are yours, at your hotel, by the pool.
Ta Prohm in the soft light just after dawn, and Angkor Wat as the sun goes down behind it. Most itineraries give you one and send you home exhausted before the second.
Four major sites across three days instead of twelve across two. Your guide has time to explain a carving rather than point at it on the way past.
The jungle temple at 6:00 AM, when the light comes through the canopy in shafts and the tour coaches are still in town. Two unhurried hours among the strangler figs.
The afternoon approach — warmer stone, longer shadows and a west-facing facade doing exactly what it was built to do. We stay through the light rather than leaving at five.
An afternoon boat through the stilted lanes of Chong Khneas, out where the lake communities actually live and work.
An hour and twenty minutes east of town, an unrestored 12th-century temple lying largely as the forest left it. Collapsed galleries, no ropes, very few people.
Every timing below is a starting point, not a rule. Tell us your flights and we rebuild the shape of the trip around them.
The split day in full — and the clearest demonstration of why this itinerary exists.
Early, but this is the only early start of the trip.
Two hours in the jungle temple in the best light of the day, with room to actually stop and look.
At a local restaurant near the park, sitting down rather than in the car.
The walled city, the Bayon's faces, the Baphuon and the quiet ruin of Preah Palilay.
Lunch, a swim, a massage or a nap. The heat peaks without you in it.
The main event, at the hour it deserves — through to sunset.
Classical Khmer dance and a multi-course Cambodian dinner at a dedicated theatre restaurant.
No pickup before 2:00 PM. The morning is genuinely free.
Sleep in. Or wander the Old Market, watch silk being woven at Artisans Angkor, or book a spa treatment — we will arrange any of it.
By boat through the stilted communities on the Tonle Sap.
Khmer barbecue out among the rice paddies as the light goes. The quietest evening of the trip.
Built backwards from your departure so the last day is useful rather than dead.
Late checkout arranged where we can. Your luggage travels with you in the air-conditioned vehicle.
An hour and twenty minutes out to the unrestored jungle temple, and two hours to explore it.
A proper lunch on the way back, and a direct transfer to Siem Reap International.
