The Royal Palace has been the residence of Cambodia’s monarch since the 1860s, and the public can visit its throne hall, gardens and the adjoining Silver Pagoda - named for the silver floor tiles laid across it, and home to a Buddha figure of emerald crystal. It is the set-piece of any Phnom Penh walk.

Why is it called the Silver Pagoda?
Its floor is laid with thousands of solid silver tiles. Most are kept covered to protect them, with a section left exposed.
Can I go inside the royal residence?
No. The king lives here and that section is closed; the throne hall and pagoda compound are what you see.
