The National Museum of Cambodia holds the largest collection of Khmer sculpture in the world, housed in a terracotta-red pavilion built in the French period beside the Royal Palace. The galleries run from pre-Angkorian stonework through the height of the empire, and the courtyard at the centre is one of the calmest places in Phnom Penh.
