Community homestays operate around Chi Phat in the Cardamoms, Banteay Chhmar in the northwest, the Mekong islands and several villages near Battambang. Facilities are simple - often a mattress under a mosquito net and a shared bathroom - and the money stays in the village. Book through the community scheme rather than a middleman where one exists.
